FRANCE, 1815-1891 An ink and watercolor painting of Napoleon on horseback attributed to Jean-Louis-Ernest Meissonier. Napoleon is depicted plump and slacken with an emotionless expression in full uniform with an overcoat. Notice the naturalistic detail of the horse and effective use of crosshatching to create contour. The work is signed "E Meissonier" and dated "1863" in the lower right corner. Sight size 13 1/2" by 9 1/2", overall with frame 21" by 17"
Overall light tanning to paper, two ghost like acid burn lines from wood backing. Otherwise very good condition, frame as is.
