Note: The ship from which these pieces hail was launched as USS YMS-328 in 1942, and spent the bulk of the Second World War in the Aleutian Islands as a minesweeper and patrol craft. She was planned to deploy to Japan when the war ended, and was stricken from the Naval Vessel Register in 1946. In 1948, the ship was privately sold, changing hands again in 1956 and again in 1962, when she was purchased by Hollywood Golden Age icon and leading man, John Wayne, who rechristened her as the Wild Goose. At some point over the following 17 years, Mr. Wayne would commission a porcelain service for his ship, bearing the burgees of the Newport Harbor Yacht Club where she was anchored, and her own.
