Our May 28th auction features the finest names in American furniture, paintings, and decorative arts, from Duncan Phyfe and Michael Allison to Thomas Moran and Albert Bierstadt. The lots on offer are a single owner collection of museum quality New York, Boston, Philadelphia, and Baltimore furniture, important Hudson River School paintings, and the finest examples of complementary decorative arts, all from Iris Court in Moultrie, Georgia. - Lot Description
18th century, possibly from a Jesuit order service, bianco-sopra-bianco borders and gilt line rims surrounding central grisaille scene featuring a putti being chased, the banner reading "Amoris Domitrix Invidia", 1-1/8 x 10 x 10 in.

Note: This plate appears to be from a service which sold at Christies, New York, Collections: Including the Property of the Earl of Harewood and from a Private Roman Apartment Overlooking the Tiber, October 9-23, 2024, Lot 154, see: https://onlineonly.christies.com/s/collections-including-property-earl-harewood-private-roman-apartment/chinese-export-porcelain-pseudo-armorial-dinner-service-154/234546. In their cataloging they note, "...Their meanings are unknown, though it is possible they may have Jesuit significance (see D. S. Howard, The Choice of the Private Trader, London, 1994, no. 139, pp. 132 and 133 where a strainer and dish from this service, in the Hodroff Collection, is illustrated)."

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction, or will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
