(French, 1820-1888)
Le Marquis de Mirabeau, signed "Trupheme Syot", E. Colin & Cie Paris foundry mark, patinated bronze, marble veneer stepped plinth, 22-1/4 x 9 x 8-1/4 in.
Provenance: Proceeds to benefit St. Peter's Episcopal Church Youth Group, with Brunk Auctions, Asheville, North Carolina, May 11, 2013, lot 0285, sold for $1,600; Virginia Private Collection
Note: Andre Francois Joseph Trupheme, a noted French sculptor, created a bronze of Comte de Mirabeau during his most productive period in the late 1850s. Mirabeau (1749-1791), a key orator and moderate figure in the early French Revolution, advocated for constitutional monarchy despite a scandalous personal life and complex political alliances. Though celebrated at his death and buried in the Pantheon, posthumous revelations of his secret ties to the monarchy damaged his reputation. Trupheme's work reflects both his regional pride and the enduring historical significance of Mirabeau.

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction, or will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
