At Waterloo, Grant commanded the 5th Cavalry Brigade, consisting of the 7th and 15th Hussars with the 13th Light Dragoons attached, on one day having five horses shot out from beneath him. During the 1820's he served as a general officer on the Irish Staff. In 1830 he was appointed Lieutenant-General.
