The Decisive Moment, photography book, New York, Simon and Schuster in collaboration with Verve, Paris, 1952, first edition, paper covered boards, dust jacket with design by Henri Matisse, with captions insert, 14-1/2 x 11 in.
Note: This is a pioneering work by a pioneering figure. In words and images, Cartier-Bresson essentially defined the emerging art of photojournalism. The title of the book has itself become a definition of both Cartier-Bresson's work and of the genre as a whole. When this ground breaking tome was published in 1952, it set the standard for the future of the field, and has maintained its' position of importance ever since.
