- Lot Description
(Edgefield, South Carolina, b. circa 1800, d. after 1873) made by Dave Drake, Lewis Miles Stony Bluff Manufactory, Horse Creek Valley, Edgefield District, SC, ovoid form, double dipped olive green runny alkaline glaze with crackle over lighter olive glaze, thick glaze run with glaze crackle around lower body of jar, three finger print marks in glaze at bottom side edge, inscribed "Feb - 25 - 1857" over "Dave" at left front shoulder of jar, "Lm" initials of Lewis Miles vertically inscribed at center of front shoulder, two slash marks to right front of jar in between two vertical rows of three punctuates indicating a capacity of possibly 6 gallons, applied 5 in. lug handles on opposing shoulders, tooled semi round rim, 15 in. tall, 44-1/4 in. circumference

Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction, or will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.

glaze voids and anomalies as made, very minor surface wear around belly, minor glaze scratches, small glaze and clay body frits to surface all consistent with age and use, 3/4 and 1-1/4 in. chips to underside of one handle, miniscule 1 in. long area of wear on base edge, eight residue drips in interior of jar, some residue on exterior that illuminates under black light, very good condition overall Note - Brunk Auctions makes every effort to offer accurate and thorough information, but encourages prospective bidders to inspect items in person whenever possible.
