Northwestern Connecticut, probably Litchfield,ÿor Western Massachusetts, Berkshire Hills,ÿcirca 1770, unusual form in fine original condition, top with molded outsetÿfront corners above four long drawers flankedÿby chamfered and fluted corners, set on ogee bracket feet, poplar secondary throughout, dovetailed, pinned, and wrought nail construction, 34 x 38 x 22 in., case width 32-5/8 in., Provenance: The Ann and Joel Finn Collection; Note: Illustrated in the Jeffery Tillou Antiques catalog, The Ann and Joel Finn Collection, 2018, pg. 28-29 (lot accompanied by copy of catalog).The Tillou catalog notes that "the chest exhibits many rare and unusual distinct cabinetmaking features. The top has an overhanging blocked corner molded edge above four graduated drawers with thumb nail molded lips, flanked by carved lamb's tongue fluted corners, supported by unique laminated ogee bracket feet."
very good with scattered old minor repairs including some patches, repairs, and minor losses at drawer lips with associated color retouch, dents and abrasions to drawer facings, brasses replaced (bat wing escutcheons removed but accompany lot), stains and abrasions to top with shrinkage crack (appears to be a one single board top and case sides, in addition, the drawer supports through mortised through back boards), one foot spur replaced, typical shrinkage separations including separations from sides to chamfered corners, one side with cracks and minor repair
Purchased items will be available for pick up or shipping from our Asheville, North Carolina auction facility within ten business days of the auction will be assessed a storage fee of $5.00 per day, per item. Purchaser agrees that packing and shipping is done at the purchaser's risk and that the purchaser will pay in advance all packing expenses, materials, carrier fees and insurance charges. At our discretion, items will either be packed by an agent such as a packaging store or Brunk Auctions. Please allow two weeks for shipping after payment is received. Shipment of large items is the responsibility of the purchaser. We are happy to provide names of carriers and shippers if a purchaser so requests. Brunk Auctions will have no liability for any loss or damage to shipped items.
