A unique vintage Asian rosewood box featuring exquisite hand-inlaid mother-of-pearl panels on the top of the lid and inside the box.
The top of the lid displays a serene and joyful scene of three young monks at play, surrounded by stylized clouds and natural motifs. The inside reveals an erotic Shunga-style depiction of a reclining couple in an intimate embrace, accompanied by delicate accessories like sandals and a tea set.Crafted from richly grained rosewood, this box combines contrasting themes—spiritual and sensual—executed with traditional craftsmanship and luminous shell inlay. The box opens to a shallow interior, making it ideal for storing small keepsakes or as a display piece.
Origin: East Asia (likely China or Japan.)
Period: Mid-20th Century.Style: Traditional Asian Decorative Arts / Shunga.
Materials: Rosewood and mother-of-pearl.
Color: Deep brown with iridescent shell inlay.
Condition: Good vintage condition with minor surface wear and some lifting/losses to inlay; lid slightly misaligned (see photos.)

Local pickup is welcomed, please call in advance to setup an appointment and ensure the items are paid for before picking up. For out of state buyers we can provide shipping quotes or provide a list of shippers, we do not pack anything ourselves but we can drop off the pieces to a shipping store such as UPS or FedEx and arrange shipping with freight companies such as Plycon, Craters & Freighters, Tramo, Cube, and others.
