- Lot Description
1st items: One (1) Naval Officer's sword marked Horstmann Philadelphia & New York near base of blade, marked "Iron Proof" to spine, and ricasso stamped with crown marking for Gebruder Weyersberg; blade decorated with military motifs and foliate engraving. Brass hilt with wire-wrapped shagreen grip and pierced foliate design and "USN" to guard, dolphin head decoration to end of guard and quillon. 2nd item: One (1) Model 1850 Field Officer sword marked Kittredge & Co to ricasso; military motifs and foliate engraved decoration to blade. Brass hilt with wood and leather-wrapped grip. 3rd item: One (1) Model 1850 sword with illegible inscription on spine of blade near hilt. Brass hilt with pierced scrolling foliate design to guard and wire-wrapped wood grip. Overall lengths range from 34 1/2" L to 38 1/2" L.
PROVENANCE: Private Knoxville, Tennessee collection.
Condition
All with areas of oxidation to blades and hilts. Scattered dents, nicks, and pitting to blades. Loss and wear to shagreen and leather on grips. 1st item: Loose guard and loose wire to shagreen grip. 2nd item: Hilt slightly loose.
