Ronnie Tjampitjinpa (Australia, c. 1943-2023) oil on linen canvas abstract triptych with one composition that consists of five overlapping circles in white and tan against a black field; a central composition that consists of four concentric squares in red and blue against a black field; and a third composition that consists of five overlapping, concentric circles--three with tan centers--against a black field, 2002. Unframed. Each: 44 3/4 in. H x 13 3/4 in. W. Overall: 44 3/4 in. H x 41 1/4 in. W. Note: This triptych is among the earliest paintings created by the artist in oils. This lot includes twenty photographs of the artist creating this triptych. See photograph sequence. Biographical Note: "Ronnie Tjampitjinpa was born in Pintupi land at Muyinnga, about 100 kilometres west of the Kintore Range, just across the Western Australian border. He is the son of Uta Uta Tjangala’s older brother, Minpuru Tjangala (c.1899-1976)...He was one of the youngest of the group of men who began painting at the start of the Western Desert art movement in 1971, and was a founder of Paunya Tula Artists...he emerged as one of Papunya Tula Artists' major painters, pioneering the bold, scaled-up, linear style that came to dominate many of the Walungurru painters' work during the 1990s."
