- Lot Description
Three (3) 19th c. original hand-crafted U.S. Patent Models. 1st Item: US patent model clothes washing machine, by R. A. Fisher, patent no. 7,753, Nov. 5th, 1850. Metal and wood construction, original finish. Officially titled "Fisher's Atmospheric Machine". 12 in. L x 5 1/2 in. W x 4 3/4 in. H. 2nd Item: a clothes dryer by M. T. Campbell, using hinges to fold into a smaller size when not in use. Patent no. 81, 249, Aug. 18, 1868. Wood construction with metal fasteners. 11 1/2 in. H. 3rd Item: A clothes drying frame by J. D. Davenport, patent no. 78,069, May 19, 1868. Glued wood and metal construction, original finish. 10 1/2 in. H x 10 in. W when fully open. Each model is accompanied by a copy of original patent office drawings and description.
Condition
1st Item (washer): Excellent, operating condition. Small split to wood on rear of machine. 2nd Item (dryer): Very good with oxidation to metal parts, two "deadbolt" pins missing, one replaced. 3rd Item (frame): Excellent condition with oxidation to top wing nut. Note: due to the innovative/experimental nature of patent models, it can be difficult to ascertain if all original parts are present or working as originally intended, and we do not guarantee their completeness or functionality.
