Nine (9) books by Walter Pater (1839-1894), first editions, uniformly bound by Riviere & Son in dark blue half leather and complementary blue cloth, with gold tooled titles, accents, 5 raised bands, and dates of publication; top edges gilt, 12mo. 8 1/4 in x 5 1/2 in. Bookplate of Lillian Stokes Gillespie in each.
Titles Include: STUDIES IN THE HISTORY OF THE RENAISSANCE. London: Macmillan & Co., 1873. 213pp, author's first published work, with his series of essays on Renaissance art.
MARIUS THE EPICUREAN: HIS SENSATIONS AND IDEAS. London: Macmillan & Co., 1885. 2 volumes, 260 and 246pp. Pater's most notable work, the book was immediately embraced by the British public, prompting a second edition being printed within months of the first.

Condition
Each in very good overall condition; boards with sun fading and rubbing, esp. at corners; leaves faintly browned at edges. All covers intact with some separations beginning.
