- Lot Description
English Victorian sterling silver 4-piece tea service in the Moorish or Aesthetic Movement taste, comprising a teapot, coffee pot, open sugar bowl and creamer, each decorated with vertical bands of chased and punched geometric designs to the sides and handles. The coffee and tea pots and sugar bowl are stamped on the bases with hallmarks for Frederick Elkington, sterling, and year marks for 1863, 1870 and 1873. The cream jug is stamped on the side for London, 1866, with no discernible maker's mark but an incuse retailer mark to base rim reading: "Hunt & Roskell late Storr and Mortimer 6301". All pieces feature a later engraved owner's inscription to underside, "Virginia Watts Bailey, Dec. 25, 1934." Coffee pot 8 3/4 in high. Combined weight: 70.29 oz troy.
Condition
Creamer and sugar bowl have gilt linings with some scratching/wear, otherwise all items very good condition. The handle/ferrule on the coffee pot is slightly loose.
