- Lot Description
Four (4) items including one Auguste Lepere wood engraving and three Old Master-related prints and drawings. Item 1: Auguste Lepere (French, 1849-1918) wood engraving on Japanese tissue paper, La Seine au Pont d'Austerlitz, with a woman on an elevated platform and the Seine and Paris in the distance, 1886. Signed in the plate, lower right. Ref.: Lotz-Brissonneau 147. Sheet: 10 1/2" H x 13 1.3" W. Mount: 12 1/2" H x 16" W.
Item 2: After Albrecht Durer (German, 1471-1528) photogravure reproduction of the artist's 1516 etching The Abduction of Proserpine, late 19th or early 20th century. Published by the Durer Society. Hinged to original cardstock with Durer Society text, lower left. Stamped "The Durer Society Reproduction" en verso. Sheet: 13" H x 9 7/8" W. Mount: 21 1/4" H x 15 1/2" W.
Item 3: Laurent Cars (French, 1699-1771) after François Le Moyne (French, 1688-1737) engraving of Adam and Eve eating the forbidden fruit, 1755. 26 1/4 x 19 3/4" W.
Item 4: Ink drawing after Salvator Rosa's (Italian, 1615-1673) etching Diogenes Casting Away His Bowl, 1660/61, itself after Rosa's painting in the Statens Museum for Kunst, Copenhagen, 1651/52. Likely 20th c. Sheet laid to heavy cardstock and taped to matboard. Sheet: 14 3/4" H x 10 1/2" W. Matboard: 20 3/4" H x 16 1/8" W.Condition
1st item is mounted to card stock. Missing extreme lower left corner. With crease to lower left and fingerprints to margins. 2nd item with foxing throughout, especially to upper margin. 3rd item with marked, even toning and foxing throughout. With handling wear and edge tears, largest 1 1/2" L, lower edge. 4th item with remnants of window mat to extreme edges.
