Qing Dynasty, 18th or 19th century embroidered large silk panel depicting a processional, possibly a royal funeral, with a phoenix tethered to a chariot carrying a distinguished woman, accompanied by handmaids; they are surrounded by various courtiers, bats, and a monkey stealing fruit, all on a faded red silk ground. Mounted to a backing board and framed in a narrow giltwood frame, 28 1/2" H x 55" W.
PROVENANCE: Estate of Judge John Nixon, Nashville, Tennessee.
Silk is adhered to a backing board, with some warping to the backing board. Overall fading and discoloration to silk. Fraying and losses to silk thread and ground. Wear to frame.
