- Lot Description
Civil War painted field drum, the front with banner stenciled "J A Embich, Middletown", most likely for Jacob A. Embich (Middletown, PA/1840 - 1917), who mustered into the Union Army's 6th Pennsylvania Reserve Regiment, also known as the 35th Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, in 1861. He mustered out in 1864. The National Guard Veteran's Card File lists Embich as a member of the Middletown Zouaves, where he was promoted to musician. The drum case is painted red with grey painted fittings. Partial illegible retailer label to the drum interior. 13 in. H x 17 in. Dia.
Condition
A medallion or similar fitting appears to be missing from the front of the drum. Overall wear, scratching, and losses to the painted surface. Wear and some light staining to head.
