Early (c. 1820) Kentucky hollow cut bust length silhouette portrait of a subject identified en verso as Col. Nathan Smith Dollam (b. 1792 - d. 1837). Oval mat, housed under glass in a faux tortoiseshell folk art sponge painted frame. Note: Col. Dollam was born in Harford Co. Maryland and married Sarah Hicks in 1807. Their first child was born in Kentucky in 1809. Col. Dollam is believed to have served with the Cornstalk Militia during the War of 1812. He died in 1837 and is buried in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Princeton, KY (Caldwell County). Sight - 5"H x 3 1/4"W.
PROVENANCE: Private Kentucky collection.
Discoloration and fading to ground, dampstaining to mat, some tiny holes to silhouette. Not examined out of frame. Small chips and losses to frame.
