- Lot Description
East Tennessee, Blount County, salt-glazed stoneware pottery jug. Ovoid form with a double beaded collar, tooling between the collar beads and beveled foot. Impressed MARYVILLE POTTERY lower body and additionally impressed "1" near handle attachment for gallon capacity. 11" H. Note: This piece is featured on pages 27 and 189 of the book TENNESSEE TURNED: EARTHENWARE AND STONEWARE MADE IN EAST TENNESSEE 1800-1900, PART ONE, by Carole Carpenter Wahler. It notes that Maryville Pottery operated from 1885-1890.
PROVENANCE: The living estate of Dr. Jerry Waters, Maryville, TN.
Condition
The jug handle is absent. Base with scattered fleabites and one chip.
