- Lot Description
Edward R. Sitzman (Ohio/Indiana, 1874-1949) oil on canvas winter landscape painting depicting a creek flowing through a forest at dawn. Signed "E.R. Sitzman" and dated 1934, lower right. Original molded wooden frame with mottled bronze finish. Sight: 29 1/2 in. H x 39 1/2 in W. Frame: 35 1/2 in. H x 45 1/2 in. W. Biography: Ohio born artist Edward Sitzman was best known for his landscapes. He studied at the Cincinnati Art Academy with Frank Duveneck and Henry Farney and in London and Munich. After returning to the U.S., he maintained a studio in Indianapolis where he worked as a painter, teacher and lecturer. Sitzman was a member of the Indiana Art Club, the Indianapolis Art Association and the Chicago Galleries Association. Condition
Painting: 1-inch repaired tear with retouch to upper right quadrant in trees. Scattered grime, inclusions and craquelure. Frame has scattered wear and a 2 in. area of loss to sight edge, upper left side.
