FOR WHOM THE BELL TOLLS, First Edition, Second Printing, by Ernest Hemingway, published by Charles Scribner's Sons, New York, 1940. Inscribed to Hemingway's friends on ffep "For Martha Belle and Hall with love from Ernest /" (Martha Belle (Aikins) Smith and author Walton Hall Smith). Hardcover octavo, 471pp, hardbound in publisher's tan cloth with red labels to spine and black lettering to front cover and spine; 1st state pictorial dust jacket with $2.75 price intact; lack of photo credit under rear portrait; wrapped in protective cover. 8 3/4" H x 6 1/4" W x 1 3/4" D.
Condition
Book in Good condition with toning to spine and top edge of boards, dampstaining to top edge, extending down 1/2" onto pages. DJ in Good condition, not clipped, 1/4" chips to spine ends, two 1/2" tears to top and bottom front cover.
