- Lot Description
A German tinted portrait bust depicting a noblewoman, cast by Berlin Gipsformerei (Replica Workshop). Red Prussian eagle seal mark on the back with the inscription GIPSFORMEREI DER KONIOL MUSEEN BERLIN and numbered in black 3250. 25 1/2 in. H x 16 in. W. Historical Note: The Berlin Gipsformerei (Replica Workshop) was founded in 1819 by King Friedrich Wilhelm III as the ‘Königlich Preußische Gipsgussanstalt’ (Royal Prussian Institute of Plaster Casting). It joined the Royal Museums in 1830, the precursor of today’s Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, and is the oldest institution within the group today.
Condition
Overall good condition with wear, minor losses, and scratches to the tinted surface. One area of loss to the hair ribbon and lower right rear bust.
