- Lot Description
Large vintage papier-mache Santa Claus hand-painted Christmas "roly poly" figure. Santa Claus smiles and raises a pipe with his right hand while in his left arm he holds toys and gifts that include a doll, horse, watch, and book. He wears his signature red suit and has a sprig of holly on his hat. Depicted in half-length, with a rounded lower half. After Thomas Nast's 1881 illustration for Harper's Weekly. 24 1/2 in. H x 17 in. W x 15 in. D. First half of the 20th century.
Condition
Overall very good condition, with surface grime and negligible abrasions or losses, largest to left shoulder, 1/4 inch. Hole under belt on left side may indicate a previous attachment.
