Civil War era Confederate LeMat, Paris grapeshot revolver, .42 caliber for the 9 shot cylinder and .63 cal. for the grapeshot barrel, serial number 601, all visible serial numbers matching. Two-piece checkered grips, octagonal barrel, lanyard ring, and standard front sight. Octagonal barrel: 7 3/8" L. Overall: 14" L.
The barrel appears to be a replacement from the same period as the LeMat revolver, possibly a field repair. The cylinder is seized up and unmoveable and may relate to a firing incident that resulted in the early replacement of the barrel. Revolver retains an old, black-grey finish with areas of pitting at the end of the barrel, light brown oxidation to end of cylinder and barrel attachment at cylinder. Loading arm assembly missing as well as one of the nine nipples for the cylinder. Revolver holds at half cock. Bore with worn rifling.
