- Lot Description
Michael Richard Madzo (American, 1950-2023) mixed media oil collage sewn to Rives paper with deckle edges, titled "Clear Sky of Blessings," depicting a landscape under a turbulent sky. Signed "Madzo" in pencil lower left and dated 1994. Image: 11" H x 8" W. Sheet: 13" H x 9 1/2" W. Accompanied by artist's card with title, and a certificate of authenticity from the studio and estate of the artist, signed by his wife, Wendy Madzo.
Note: artist Michael Madzo passed away in March 2023 at his home in the Nashville area. He studied art at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, Northern Arizona University, and Arizona State University, and had an extensive exhibition history including the North Dakota Museum of Art and galleries in New York and California. He described his unique process as "Simply complicated. Cut and layered painted papers are assembled into images before being sewn together with colored thread by sewing machine. Images are at once striking, oft familiar, story-like figures inviting archetypal translations of a shared yet arcane narrative."
