- Lot Description
Nina Maguire (American, b. 1933), "The Fortuny Angel," acrylic or oil on board painting depicting an angel figurine on a shelf with greenery and a cup or bowl. Signed lower right. Titled on paper label en verso and dated 2005. Housed in a wide gold frame with carved corner ornaments. Sight: 14 1/2" square. Frame: 22" square.
Condition
Painting in excellent condition. Several areas of loss to frame gilding at edges.
- Provenance
The estate of Thelma Schlicher, by descent from the estate of U.S. Ambassador Ronald Schlicher, Brentwood, TN. Note: Tennessee native Ron Schlicher entered the foreign service in 1982, working primarily in the Middle East. He returned to TN after retiring in 2011. Among his many diplomatic roles, he served as Ambassador to Cyprus, U.S. Principal Deputy Assistant Coordinator of Counterterrorism, and was director of the Iraq Task Force during the 2003 war with Iraq.
