- Lot Description
Robert Stark III (American, b.1964) photorealist oil on board painting of a distant ship sailing under a bright, full moon reflected in the placid waters below. Signed lower left "RWS III." Broad black contemporary frame. Sight: 4 1/2" square. Frame: 2 1/2" square. Biographical note: "Predominantly a realist still life painter, Robert W. Stark III focuses on the subtle effects of light on the subject matter and settings of his paintings. Stark draws strongly from the Dutch still life painters for technique. Raised on Nantucket, Robert Stark left the island to attend the Taft School and Georgetown University where he majored in Chinese/Asian studies and Fine Arts. He has since returned to the island to focus on his painting." (Source: Artists Association of Nantucket)
