Katsushika Hokusai (Japan, 1760-1849) original vertical nagaoba woodblock print depicting the Chinese poet Li Bai AKA Li Po, Rihaku, etc. admiring the waterfall of Lo-Shan in the Chinese province of Kiang-Si, with two figures supporting him. From the series Shika shashin kyo (True Mirror of Chinese and Japanese Poetry), c. 1833. This print illustrates Li Bai's famous poem Gazing at the Waterfall at Mount Lu. Signed in the image, center left, and with Moriya Jihei (Kinshindo) publisher's mark, lower left. Unframed. 20 7/16" H x 8 15/16" W.
Overall very good condition. Minor toning to sheet and fading, with more vibrant color visible along edges due to old matting, 3/16" into image. Pinpoint specks of white pigment to lower left quadrant. Very faint horizontal crease through center and very faint dampstaining to uncolored area of sky. Sheet is affixed to backing at upper corners.
