- Lot Description
Edward "Ted" Faiers (Canadian/American/Memphis, 1908-1985), "Big Wheel," large abstract woodcut print in colors on handmade paper, featuring a face above geometric forms in red, purple, tan and blue, 1960. Signed in pencil "Edward Faiers" lower right, titled and dated lower left. Clipped newspaper article regarding a 2006 exhibition featuring Faiers' work at Meredith Ward Gallery in New York en verso (this print is not known to have been featured in that show). Matted under plexiglass in a metal frame. Sight: 28 in H x 19 in W. Frame: 34 1/2 in H x 25 1/2 in W. Note: English-born Ted Faiers grew up in Western Canada, was educated at the Art Students League in New York, and taught for more than three decades at the Memphis College of Art. He is known for his abstract works inspired by his mentor Wil Barnet and by Indian space painters, whose forms, colors and patterns recall traditional Native American pottery and weavings. Condition
Some light toning and rippling to paper, a few spots of foxing. Small chip to glass lower right corner.
