• Lot Description

  A signed note written by Thomas Alva Edison to an unknown recipient, in which he shares his thoughts on Guglielmo Marconi, regarded as the inventor of the radio, after his successful work creating a wireless telegraphy system. "Since Marconi has stated over his own signature that he has received the signals from England I believe him & I think he will carry it to a commercial success, It is a great achievement, & he is a great Experimenter - Edison". The note likely references Marconi's turn of the century experiments with trans-Atlantic wireless transmissions. The note consists of two separate pieces of paper, laid onto cardstock. Late 19th / early 20th century. Top paper: 6 in. W x 3 in. H; Lower paper: 6 in. W x 6 in. H

  Toned. Adhered to cardstock. Later colored pencil inscription, illegible, lower left.
