Thomas Doughty (American, 1791-1856) Hudson River School oil on canvas riverscape painting depicting figures watching boats sailing on a placid river, positioned between steep hillsides, all under a blue sky partially hidden behind large gray clouds. Signed "TDOUGHTY" lower center. With Christies auction labels to stretcher, plus one loose. Housed in a gilt wooden frame of the period. Frame: 47 in W x 40 in H. Sight: 35 in W x 28 in H.
Overall very good condition. Canvas has been relined. Scattered retouching throughout, especially to sky and edges, largest area in the upper center of the sky, 6 1/2 inch x 3 inch. See UV photography.
