- Lot Description
William A. Carson (Iowa/Illinois/California, 1867-1949) oil on canvas forest landscape painting, depicting a stream meandering through a rocky woodland setting. Signed lower left "W.A. Carson." Ornate carved floral giltwood frame. Stretcher: 12 in. H x 9 in. W. Frame: 16 in. H x 14 in. W. Note: A self taught artist, William Carson spent much of his childhood in Colorado playing with Native Americans, who became frequent subjects for his paintings as an adult. He maintained a studio in Iowa, painting landscapes, before going to work for the Chicago Portrait Company, painting landscapes that were reproduced as lithographs. In the 1920s and 30s, Carson made many trips to the West and was active in northern California, painting many small landscapes and coastal scenes. In his final years he returned to Illinois where he remained until his death in 1949. Source: Jackson County Iowa Historical Society; Edan Hughes, "Artists in California, 1786-1940."
Condition
Overall very good condition, light grime and craquelure. Frame regilded with a few small edge chips.

Payment must be received no later than five (5) days after the sale.
Unless you are a known customer of Case Auctions, payment for all gold, precious metal, and gem lots must be made by bank wire transfer, ACH, certified bank check, or money order. No exceptions.
If you pick up your lots from any of our galleries, Tennessee state sales tax will apply. Sales tax will only be waived if you provide a valid resale certificate from your state of residence.
If paying with a credit card, a 3.5% credit card processing fee will be applied to the final sales price (i.e. hammer price + buyer's premium + applicable taxes). If you have a credit card on file with Case, any winning bids will be automatically charged (up to $3000) along with applicable fees 72 hours after you receive your invoice unless other arrangements have been made.
