- Lot Description
Willy Thiriar (Belgium, 1889-1965) oil on canvas Belle Epoque style painting of two women in fashionable late 19th century attire seated on a bench in a wooded park. One woman looks directly at the viewer while the second reads a book. Signed "W. Thiriar," lower right. Housed in an ornate giltwood and composition frame. Sight: 25 1/2" H x x 20 1/2" W. Frame: 35" H x 30 1/4" W. Note: Willy Thiriar studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich and was known for his paintings as well as illustrations and posters.
Condition
Old repair en verso, upper right, with corresponding areas of inpainting to recto. Additional inpainting to upper center, 2" L, and to right of book and trees at right. Frame with wear including cracks and minor abrasions.
