19th century miniature portrait mourning pendant necklace
Charles Bird King (American, 1785-1862), Portrait of Elizabeth Rachel Larned/Woodyear (nee Newman) (American, 1799-1855), circa 1850, oil painting (mourning pendant), which measures approximately 50.00 X 40.00 mm, framed in an intricately hand chased 14k yellow gold pendant mounting with movable bail, reverse exhibits a keepsake locket and engraved "E R Larned" suspended from a Victorian 18k yellow gold 6.3 mm rope link chain, 20 ", secured by a large gold-filled spring-ring clasp, pendant frame measures 2 1/4" X 1 7/8", excellent condition, gross weight is 55.1 grams. Note: Charles Bird King was second cousin of Elizabeth Rachel Newman Larned/Woodyear (nee Newman). This pendant is illustrated and identified in the book, "Though Silent They Speak; The Larned Family History," by Johney Larned, 2005. Provenance: From the artist (Charles Bird King) to the sitter (Elizabeth Rachel Larned/Woodyear (nee Newman)) and passed down from the Huidekoper family to present owner.
