Exquisite Dutch marquetry cabinet on frame, in the style of Jan van Meekeren, 18th century or later. Measures 74.25 x 51.57 x 23.5 inches. Intricate inlay throughout in various woods including green stained boxwood, ebony, walnut, etc. Doors with depictions of floral bouquets in gadrooned vases placed on tabletops. Songbirds, parrot, butterflies, and other insects appear on the doors alongside the floral arrangements. Elaborate floral sprays at each side panel, on door interiors, drawer faces, front and sides of the cabinet case, and on the bases of the 6 fluted column supports. Bone string inlay throughout. Verde variegated marble inset at base. Resting on 6 block feet. Two drawers above two doors opening to reveal shelving and two interior drawers. One long drawer below. Functional locking mechanisms on doors and lower drawer. Drawer cases of oak wood. Includes three functional keys. Partial paper labels on back panel, one reading '...and Sons Warehousemen, St. George's Rd. Wimbleton...'. Provenance: Agostino Antiques; Estate of Charles G. Pauli, Pittsburgh, PA.
Condition
Restoration throughout, infills using paint on inlays in some areas, age related wood cracks not affecting functionality, scratches to hardstone inset.
