Herbert Spencer, Pioneers of Modern Typography. An outstanding association copy from the personal library of designer, typographer and artist Herbert Bayer, with his stamped thumbprint and signature on the fly leaf. Bayer's work is featured in this book in a 9 page section covering his European and Bauhaus designs. In addition, he's the first person thanked in the author's dedication. 1969, First edition, published by Lund Humphries. Hardcover in dust jacket, yellow cloth. 160 pages and over 160 illustrations, mostly in color and printed on a variety of paper stocks. 12 x 8.5 inches. A rare design first edition already, made even more special by the Bayer provenance. Other artists featured in this book include: Apollinaire, Max Bill, Theo van Doesburg, Feininger, John Heartfield, Johannes Itten, Leger, Moholy-Nagy, Rodchenko, Kurt Schwitters, Ladislav Sutnar, Jan Tschichold, Werkman and many more.Very Good in a Good dust jacket, a bright, tight and unmarked copy; the dust jacket with minor edgewear, one small area on the rear panel where the laminate is starting to lift, spine sunned just a tiny bit.
