Ira D. Hudson (1873-1949)
Chincoteague, VA, c. 1920
13 3/4 in. long
This decoy exhibits well-rounded, balanced form achieved by a master craftsman. With graceful lines, fluted tail, and cheek carving, this bluebill embodies the best of Hudson’s work. Subtle nuances include carved bill detail, painted tack eyes, and scratch wing paint.
Nearly a century old, this bird bears the Davison Hawthorne ink stamp on the underside. Original paint with even gunning wear and rub to top of tail.
Provenance: Davison B. Hawthorne Collection
