English, early 19th century. An angle barometer by Charles Howorth, the mahogany case features fruitwood inlay along the edges, stylized sunburst patterns at the top and bottom of the arms, and inlaid shells on either side of the base of the thermometer. The face of the barometer signed C. Howorth / Halifax, and features four hand-painted cherubs. The back has a removable plate to reveal the scales; ht. 37 in., arm extension lg. 17 in.
