Continental Old Master Wedding Portraits
Possibly German, 16th-17th century. A pair of oil on leather wedding portraits, laid over a panel and housed in 18th century carved painted and gilt frames, each figure surrounded by an orange blossom wreath and holding a small flower bunch, with embossed triangular leather patterns throughout, unsigned, Peter Gravina, NY, label affixed to reverse of man's portrait; each 23.5 x 20 in. (sight).
Significant condition issues include: a large vertical crack running from top to bottom along the center of the man's portrait, a similar, but fainter, crack on the woman's portrait, multiple cracks, as well as crazing and warping to each. Expected wear, including paint loss, dents, and small holes, to the frames.
