Devotional Silk Double-Sided Embroidery with French Script
19th century. A fine double-sided embroidery on paper in silk and silvered thread, depicting the Holy Spirit in the form of a dove and burning heart, surrounded by a wreath of flowers. One side dated Dimanche 25 novembre 1810, with central script reading Je veut quil brule [sic],the other side dated Le mardi 4 Decembre 1810 and labeled sainte Barbe Vierge, with central script reading J'aporte le feu [sic], both sides initialed at top. Housed between glass in a giltwood frame; 6.75 x 4.5 in. (sight).
