Canal View Toward Mt. Adams watercolor on paper signed E. Nourse; dated 1884; inscribed To my dear Friend Ottilie Roederstein 10.5 x 16 in. (sight)
Ottilie Roederstein (1859-1937) was a Swiss-German painter and a contemporary and friend of Nourse. Roederstein excelled at portraiture and drew praise for her ability to evocatively and sympathetically express the character of her sitters. She studied painting in Germany at a number of studios and exhibited her work in Germany and France. Her paintings were included at the Exposition Universelle (1889) in Paris.
