European Scrimshaw Animal Bone
19th century. An intricately carved bone, adorned on one side with a three-masted ship, a man's profile, a flag (possibly Norwegian) and an anchor, on the other side with larger ship, a cross and a block of indecipherable text. The images are separated by rows of foliate and geometric decoration, along with a scene of a village underneath the larger ship; lg. 5.5 in.
