American, 1872. A sterling silver Gorham presentation pitcher inscribed Pardee / from / ALL OF US, the body of the pitcher with bright cut engraving of an elaborately decorated ribbon and a textile band tied into a bow, the handle adorned with a three-dimensional cherub and flowers, leaves, and vines, marked on underside with Gorham hallmarks / 490 / 13 / 1/2 pints / STERLING / E; ht. 11.5 in., silver wt. 35.14ozt (1093g).
The presentation purportedly references Julius H. Pardee, 2nd Lieutenant of the 23rd Infantry, who served in the western Indian Wars of the 1870s. Pardee graduated from West Point in 1871 and was ranked last in his class, also known as being the "goat". It is possible that the inscription on the pitcher refers to this, and was a gift from his classmates.
