Great Northern Diver or Loon Aquatint by Audubon, Havell Edition
John James Audubon (French/American,1785-1851). A framed 1836 hand-colored aquatint, depicting two loons on a lake, with J. Whatman watermark within plate l.l., signed l.l., credit to Havell l.r., titled Great Northern Diver or Loon / Colymbus Glacialis, L / Adult 1, Young in Winter 2 l.c., No 62 u.l., and Plate CCCVL u.r.; 26 x 38.75 in. (sheet size), 25 x 36.25 in. (sight).
Upper rim was unevenly trimmed.
Toning, mat burn, a few stains, small tears (longest 1.25 in.) and losses to edges, water damage on lower margin, pin holes in corners, tape to reverse (tear repairs), a few scratches within the plate, barely visible as they are not located on color.
