P1895 Infantry Officer's sword having unique hard composition wire wrapped, checkered grip that came into fashion during the South African War. Dull nickel-plated steel guard with a scroll pattern design in pierced strapwork incorporating Edward VII cypher and crown. Overall length 38.25". Wilkinson blade numbered 38136 with the Duke of Cambridge's Own Middlesex regimental badge and stylized initials that appear to read "HDHC."
Good condition. Blade shows some darkening and staining due to age. Hilt has a gunmetal patina with some wear on strapwork. Even coat of rust on scabbard. With original steel scabbard previously cleaned, now showing an even coat of darkened surface rust.
