Hancock, John (1737-1793). President of the Continental Congress; first signer of the Declaration of Independence; first and third Governor of Massachusetts. Partially printed DS, clipped, 4 x 6.5 in., dated April 1776, from a military appointment of a surgeon in the Continental Army, signed as President of the Continental Congress. Professionally framed with an 1862 engraving by Johnson, Fry & Co., 16 x 25 in. overall.
Browning in the lower right corner including the signature, and a small hole at the fold intersection in the center. Overall a strong, bold signature as expected from the man synonymous with word. Not removed from frame for examination.
