Jules Alexandre Grun (French, 1868-1938)
signed l.r. in plate
40 x 59.5 in. (sight)
The print appears to have been trimmed. It was mounted on linen, with painter's tape outlining the print. It does not appear that the tape overlaps with the borders of the print. Trimmed dimensions: 40 x 59.75; linen mount dimensions: 43 x 62.5 in.
The frame is in excellent condition.
The following condition issues are noticeable upon close examination, but we believe that they do not detract from the aesthetic appeal of the piece:
There are a few small bulges on the surface of the print, suggesting the glue underneath. The print has evidently been folded in the past, as indicated by two central creases, one horizontal, the other vertical. There are a few small scratches, at least two pinholes along the top edge, a few possible tears and/or creases along the bottom edges, one arc-shaped tear on the face of one woman, and another tear on the face of the other woman. Note that to the exception of the last-mentioned one, which lifts up a little from the mount, all tears are de facto repaired thanks to the mounting process. The print was examined under a black light, which revealed that color was retouched along the tears/creases, and also on five circular spots located on the collar of one lady.
