Model 1841 Ames Naval Cutlass
21" blade. Markings at ricasso running parallel with the blade. On one side "US" and dated "1842" on the reverse N.P. Ames Cabotville Mass. Cast brass handle with fish scales; eagle on the pommel on both sides. Brass knuckle bow. Early 1832 foot officer's scabbard, leather with brass throat and tip.
Provenance: A.C. Daum
Blade is gunmetal grey with some light staining and pitting mixing in. Markings are excellent. Leather scabbard is complete and in good condition, showing some wear, brass tip and throat with nice untouched patina. This is the first one we have catalogued with the markings in this location. It also has an early date 1842; it is a very fine example of this early rare date.
