Hilt has brass guard pierced with an oak leaf motif and "USN" on a scroll, Phrygian helmet pommel embossed with oak leafs and an eagle, grip wrapped in white rayskin and brass wire. Guard wrapped with a gold bullion knot. Complete with a brass mounted black leather scabbard, the throat marked with a three-line Ames address.
Good. Blade mostly bright with scattered but large dark spots and areas of surface rust. Good traces of gilt finish remain on the hilt, grip wrap slightly shrunk with a narrow gap along the length.
