.58 caliber, 40" round barrel length bored out to smooth, NSN, lock has markings "C.S." over "Richmond, Va.". Behind the hammer is dated "1862". Iron mountings with walnut stock. This is a type II Rifled Musket and which the stock has been period cut down, fore end cap and welded ram rod pipes added. This was not uncommon for a Confederate Veteran to do with a musket after the war for personal use.
All mountings show pitting that is blending to an even dark patina. The stock shows heavy use with a crack in the forearm extended to the front of the lock. Added circle emblem to the right side of the butt stock. Replaced ram rod is cracked. Bore is pitted.
